It’s been slow news weeks for Kahvipapu. I’ve been quite busy with work and setting up vacation trip. For next month, Kahvipapu will stay silent as I go to Japan for a month (Leaving tomorrow). Maybe I’ll bring an article or two with me about some strange Japanese gadgets…
First month of Kahvipapu is behind. So how did it go? Here’s some interesting statistics:
Article highlights were Linux gaming articles which reached unexpectedly high popularity. Don’t worry, more parts coming! Hopefully these articles got a few Windows running people more interested in Linux. I was flooded with comments like “Why didn’t you mention game X”. I tried my best to find the top games for Linux, but apparently it’s not that easy job. I’d say, old myth “Linux has no games” hardly stands. Of course it might not have latest top-hit commercial mass games, but it has games. Good ones.
Sony just announced Playstation 3 price drop down to $499 (USD). The catch is, price drop affects only US customers. Many think $499 is low enough price to get people more interested in PS3. It probably is. However this is the case only in the US.
So how is the rest of the world? Bad. Just for the comparison, Playstation 3 costs 679€ in Finland. That’s $925 USD! Even if the price drops with $100 (or even €, doesn’t really matter) the price is more than Wii and Xbox360 combined. Australians need to pay around $850 USD for PS3. Sony is touting how PS3 is worth of its price. $499? Probably. $925? Hardly.
Sony, are you listening? How about price drops outside the US? Less than 4 million consoles sold since the launch is pathetic. Wii has sold more than twice more! Pretty good for a crappy console that’s nothing more than ‘impulse buy’, isn’t it?

Kahvipapu finally got an original theme. Thanks to Pupung for the great work ![]()
And what a fine roast it’ll be. “Kahvipapu” is a Finnish word, and means “Coffee bean” in English.
