Playstation 3 price drop. Sort of.

Sony just announced Playstation 3 price drop down to $499 (USD). The catch is, price drop affects only US customers. Many think $499 is low enough price to get people more interested in PS3. It probably is. However this is the case only in the US.

So how is the rest of the world? Bad. Just for the comparison, Playstation 3 costs 679€ in Finland. That’s $925 USD! Even if the price drops with $100 (or even €, doesn’t really matter) the price is more than Wii and Xbox360 combined. Australians need to pay around $850 USD for PS3. Sony is touting how PS3 is worth of its price. $499? Probably. $925? Hardly.

Sony, are you listening? How about price drops outside the US? Less than 4 million consoles sold since the launch is pathetic. Wii has sold more than twice more! Pretty good for a crappy console that’s nothing more than ‘impulse buy’, isn’t it?

Some of the most important function of internet marketing is to make your brand more visible to the targeted audience. Even if you have a useful software it won’t sell or make news if people don’t know about it. Whether you have on offer the best image hosting service or the best web hosting service you won’t get far in the highly competitive market if you can’t differentiate. Marketing on one or two attributes of your service can make you a leader in that niche. For example you can focus on your domain name registration expertise, you can market yourself as a cheap web hosting service or you can highlight your special online backup arrangements.
