iPhone bugs

July 25th, 2007 | Apple by th | No Comments

Applehound has released list of 68 known and reproducible bugs found in iPhone. Ars Techica also has a nice roundup of this bugreport. Although 68 bugs might sound like a huge number, it is not. Applehound themselves concluded that iPhone is, even with these bugs, a very solid product:

We have spent more than 40 hours tapping around the iPhone screens in an effort to find issues with the applications. This was not an easy task. The OS X graphical interface and applications are extremely solid! The bugs range from minor display issues to application crashes. All 68 are should be reproducible by every iPhone owner!

Microsoft has been under fire recently because of faulty Xbox360 consoles and lost over 1 billion US dollars to fix hardware faults. Well, they also think they’re above the domestic laws and are strictly liable for the faults only under Microsoft’s user policy and not Swedish law.

Quote from the conversation:

I ask:
Are you above swedish law??

She answers:
Yes we do, as soon as you are in contact with us our policy
applies, not swedish law
!

Ubuntu Live conference, Gutsy notes

July 24th, 2007 | Ubuntu, Linux by th | 1 Comment

The Ubuntu Live conference began in Portland Oregon July 22nd, and Ars Technica has coverage of Mark Shuttleworth’s keynote from the conference.

Shuttleworth revealed many interesting things about the future of Ubuntu, especially the server version of Ubuntu:

  • Canonical wants to do same for Ubuntu server as it did for the Desktop version - make things “just work”
  • KVM and Xen will receive love for easy virtualization
  • Next Long Term Support (LTS) release will be Ubuntu 8.04
  • LTS releases approximately every two years

And couple interesting notes about the next release, Ubuntu 7.10, also known as Gutsy Gibbon:

  • Gutsy server edition will include Ebox platform, more details about the integration at Ubuntu wiki and Gutsy blueprints page at Launchpad.
  • Desktop version of Gutsy will have Compiz enabled by default (if the graphics card has enough power to display the effects)

In a nutshell the future of Ubuntu, and Linux in general, is pretty interesting.

The 10 Hardest PC Games

July 19th, 2007 | Games by th | No Comments

CustomPC has collected a list of the hardest PC games. And I just have to disagree with this list. If you seriously thinkg GTA: San Andreas is one of the hardest PC games ‘ever made’, you probably haven’t played much games. System Shock 2? Homeworld 2? Far Cry? Final Doom? The only game I can agree being hard in the list, is the number 1: Alien vs Predator (The original). It was a challenging game years back. But most of that ‘challenge’ was because you couldn’t save during the levels. Now there’s a wussy version available which lets you save a few times during the levels (lame).

LinuxMCE is a free, open source add-on to Ubuntu including a 10′ UI, complete whole-house media solution with pvr + distributed media, and the most advanced smarthome solution available.

Absolutely fantastic introduction video available here. Though it’s quite biased comparison against Windows Media Center, it demonstrates LinuxMCE’s features pretty well.
